Both Stevens-johnson syndrome (SJS) and Toxic-epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are generally medication-induced pathological conditions that mostly affect the epidermis and mucus membranes. Nearly 1 to 2 patients per 1,000,000 population are affected annually with SJS and TEN, and sometimes these maladies can cause serious life-threatening events. The reported death rates for SJS range from 1 to 5%, and 25 to 35% for TEN. The mortality risk may even be higher among elderly patients, especially in those who are affected by a significant amount of epidermal detachment. More than 50% of TEN patients who survive the illness may experience long-term lower quality of life and lesser life expectancy. The clinical and histopathological conditions of SJS and TEN are characterized by mucocutaneous discomfort, haemorrhagic erosions, erythema, and occasionally severe epidermal separation that can turn into ulcerative patches and dermal necrosis. The relative difference between SJS and TEN is the degree of ulcerative skin detachment, making them two extremes of a spectrum of severe cutaneous adverse drug-induced reactions (cADRs). In the majority of cases, serious drug-related hypercreativities are considered the main cause of SJS & TEN; however, herpes simplex virus and Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections may also produce similar type clinical conditions. The aetiology of a lesser number of cases and their underlying causative factors remain unknown. Among the drugs with a 'greater likelihood' of causing TEN & SJS are carbamazepine (CBZ), trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, phenytoin, aminopenicillins, allopurinol, cephalosporins, sulphonamides, antibiotics, quinolones, phenobarbital, and NSAIDs of the oxicam variety. There is also a strong genetic link between the occurrence of SJS and IEN in the Han Chinese population. Such genetic association is based on the human leukocyte antigen (HLA-B*1502) and the co-administration of carbamazepine. The diagnosis of SJS is made mostly on the gross observations of clinical symptoms, and confirmed by the histopathological examination of dermal biopsies of the patients. The differential diagnoses consist of the exclusion of Pemphigus vulgaris, bullous pemphigoid, linear IgA dermatosis, paraneoplastic pemphigus, disseminated fixed bullous drug eruption, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP), and staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSSS). The management of SJS & TEN is rather difficult and complicated, and there is sometimes a high risk of mortality in seriously inflicted patients. Urgent medical attention is needed for early diagnosis, estimation of the SCORTEN prognosis, identification and discontinuation of the causative agent as well as highdose injectable Ig therapeutic interventions along with specialized supportive care. Historical aspects, aetiology, mechanisms, and incidences of SJS and TEN are discussed. An update on the genetic occurrence of these medication-related hypersensitive ailments as well as different therapy options and management of patients is also provided.

A patient with epilepsy on carbamazepine developed a rapidly progressive cerebellar syndrome. Serial MRI showed progressive posterior fossa T2/fluid attenuated inversion recovery hyperintensity with gadolinium enhancement. Standard cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis was normal. Detection of John Cunningham virus DNA in the CSF confirmed progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML). The only evidence of immune disfunction was hypogammaglobulinaemia and longstanding lymphopenia. After cessation of carbamazepine, the lymphocyte count and immunoglobulin levels returned to normal and the PML resolved, with good clinical recovery. No specific treatments for PML were given. We hypothesise that PML in this case was due to carbamazepine-induced prolonged mild immunosuppression with reconstitution of the immune system after carbamazepine cessation, resulting in recovery from PML. Effects of anticonvulsants on immune function and infection risk may contribute to epilepsy-related morbidity and mortality. Further investigation is needed to determine the frequency of immune dysfunction and infections in patients treated with anticonvulsants such as carbamazepine and whether interventions could reduce infection risk.

INTRODUCTION: Carbamazepine is an antiepileptic drug used in the treatment of epilepsy, trigeminal neuralgia, and bipolar disorder. Hematological effects that may develop with this anticonvulsant; agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, aplastic anemia, eosinophilia, or pancytopenia. CASE REPORT: In this article, we wanted to present a case diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia after long-term use of carbamazepine because of epilepsy. MANAGEMENT AND OUTCOME: Bone marrow smear was evaluated and blastic cell infiltration was observed. The carbamazepine treatment was discontinued and standard chemotherapy was started for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (CALGB protocol). Levetiracetam was started for epilepsy. DISCUSSION: Carbamazepine is an iminostilbene derivative. Carbamazepine is an antiepileptic drug that exhibits a number of side effects such as headache, abdominal pain, high blood pressure, as well as hematological disorders. In addition to causing thrombocytopenia, hypogammaglobulinemia, leukopenia, and neutropenia, it can have serious effects such as agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia, pure red cell aplasia, leukemia, or DRESS syndrome. The incidence of serious side effects from carbamazepine pharmacotherapy is low, and their exact mechanism of action is still unknown.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have demonstrated that human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-A*24:02 is a common genetic risk factor for antiepileptic drug-induced skin rash, while HLA-B*15:02 is a specific risk factor for carbamazepine (CBZ)-induced Stevens Johnson syndrome and toxin epidermal necrolysis. The HLA-B*15:02 allele can alter the repertoire of endogenous peptides to trigger CBZ-induced hypersensitivity. However, it is uncertain whether HLA-A*24:02 could produce alterations in the peptide repertoire during treatment with antiepileptic drugs. METHODS: We generated stable HMy2.C1R cells expressing HLA-A*24:02 and HLA-B*15:02, clarified into 4 groups according to with or without CBZ treatment. We employed LC/MSto detect the HLA-bound peptides in 4 groups. Furthermore, we conducted in silico analysis to seek th differential expressed genes (DEGs) associated with HLA-A*24:02 and HLA-B*15:02. Finally, we verify the DEGs via qRT-PCR and Western blotting. RESULTS: A total of 134 peptides were identified from the four groups, mainly comprising<15 mer peptides. In CBZ-treated groups, 29 and 30 peptides showed significantly increased respectively in HLA-A*24:02 and HLA-B*15:02 positive cells comprising Lysine in PΩ, but the sources of these lysine peptides are different. Three peptides were exclusively detected in the HLA-A*24:02 positive cells treated with CBZ, of which 'SRQVVRSSK' was derived from the immune associated protein coronin 1A (CORO1A). CORO1A and its mRNA were significantly expressed in HLA-A*24:02 positive cells treated with CBZ. Additionally, this significantly high expression was identified in HLA-A*24:02 positive cells that were treated with lamotrigine (LTG). Nonetheless, CORO1A were not decreased in HLA-B*15:02 positive cells with or without CBZ or LTG treatment. CONCLUSIONS: These findings confirmed that the alteration in the endogenous peptidome was a general mechanism of HLA-linked skin rashes and suggests that CORO1A is involved in HLA-A*24:02-associated skin rash.

Background and Objectives: Hyponatremia is one of the most common adverse effects in patients treated with oxcarbazepine (OXC). Different risk factors for OXC-induced hyponatremia have been described as age, female gender, dosage, and combination with other drugs During our clinical practice, we noticed that a longer duration of treatment with OXC could be associated with a higher risk of hyponatremia, therefore, in this study, we aimed to evaluate factors that may increase the risk of OXC-induced hyponatremia. Materials and Methods: Data were retrospectively collected from our clinical database at the Department of Neurology of the Hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kaunas Clinics. The sample was divided into three groups: OXC consumers (n = 31), other anti-seizure medications (ASMs) consumers (n = 43), and controls absent ASMs (n = 31). All groups were matched by age and gender. Hyponatremia was defined as <136 mmol/L. Results: The frequency of hyponatremia was significantly higher among OXC patients (61.3%) compared to other ASM patients (5.4%) and controls (3.2%). The mean serum sodium concentration in the OXC group was 133.1 ± 5.1 mmol/L. The frequency of severe hyponatremia among OXC-treated patients was 19.4%; this subgroup was older than patients with moderate hyponatremia and normonatremia and had a longer OXC treatment duration compared to a subgroup of normonatremia. The average duration of OXC therapy was 8.7 ± 5.5 years with a range from 1 to 21 years. Serum sodium concentration and duration of treatment with OXC demonstrated a significant negative correlation (r = −0,427, p = 0.017). Each year of therapy with OXC increased the risk of hyponatremia 1.3 times (OR = 1.326, 95% Cl 1.027−1.712, p = 0.031). Other factors (gender, age, polypharmacy, OXC dosage, and serum concentration) did not show a significant association with the development of hyponatremia. Conclusions: Longer duration of treatment with OXC is an important factor in the development and severity of hyponatremia.

Fabry disease (FD) is a genetic disorder caused by a-galactosidase A gene mutation. Ultrastructural analysis revealing zebra bodies are the typical morphological characteristics. However, certain tricyclic antidepressants and some other medications could induce renal phospholipidosis mimicking FD. We report a 33-year-old man has been taking carbamazepine intermittently for around 10 years whenever he experiences pain and paresthesia in his fingers. He experienced mild edema on both lower limbs half a year ago. Laboratory tests revealed a fluctuating urine protein between + and ++. Electron microscopy revealed laminated "zebra body" in podocytes, which is typical of FD. However, the patient had no family history and the sequencing of the a-galactosidase gene revealed no mutations. The a-galactosidase A enzyme activity was normal at 6.03 µmol/mL/h (normal 2.40-17.65 µmol/mL/h), and low expression of globotriaosylceramide (Gb3) was detected in the renal tissue of this patient. Therefore, the diagnosis of Fabry disease was excluded. Considering the patient's long-term treatment with carbamazepine (blood level 1.8 µg/ml), we speculated whether the pathological features could be associated with renal phospholipidosis caused by carbamazepine. The follow-up data showed that proteinuria was improved (fluctuated at + ~ -) after discontinuing carbamazepine for six months, which further seemed to support the above diagnosis. Therefore, we concluded that a possible case of carbamazepine-induced renal phospholipidosis, mimicking that observed in FD, has been associated with its nephrotoxicity.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Taiwan Drug-Injury Relief System (TDRS) has been implemented since 1999. More than 60% of the approved applications were associated with severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs). Studies assessing SCARs using real-world evidence are very limited. TDRS offers abundant case information as a source of real-world evidence to investigate the characteristics of SCARs in Taiwan. The purpose of this study is to understand the trends and characteristics of SCARs in Taiwan. METHODS: Applications from Drug-Injury Relief Database (TDRD) from 1999 to 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. RESULTS: A declining trend in SCARs application was noticed after 2012, and 952 applications of SCARs were identified. The most common subtypes of SCARs were SJS/TEN (n = 455/206), DRESS (n = 228), GBFDE (n = 34) and AGEP (n = 18). The most common culprit drugs were allopurinol, carbamazepine, phenytoin, diclofenac and lamotrigine for SJS/TEN; allopurinol, phenytoin, co-trimoxazole, carbamazepine and phenobarbital for DRESS; mefenamic acid for GBFDE; non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and beta-lactam antibacterials for AGEP. The proportions of mortality cases were 28.9% for SJS/TEN; 36% for DRESS; 11.8% for GBFDE and 5.6% for AGEP. The mean latent period of SJS/TEN, DRESS, GBFDE and AGEP were 21.8 days, 29.2 days, 3.3 days and 6.7 days, respectively. CONCLUSION: The approved drug-injury relief applications associated with SCARs were mainly SJS, TEN and DRESS. The most common culprit drugs were antiepileptics, antibacterials, antigout agents, and NSAIDs. The latent periods showed some distinct features for different types of SCARs. In light of the high mortality rate, public awareness and vigilance of SCARs are crucial for the patient safety.

Abstract The treatment of epilepsy is complex and a matter of concern is the interchangeability among different formulations available for antiepileptic drugs. To evaluate the effects of interchangeability among carbamazepine formulations on patients with epilepsy. This is a prospective cohort study that included adult outpatients diagnosed with epilepsy and under pharmacological treatment with carbamazepine. Before switching the brand/manufacturer, the "Interchangeable Pharmaceutical Product in the Treatment of Epilepsies" questionnaire was applied. The questionnaires "Adverse Events Profile" and Quality of Life in Epilepsy-31, so as the plasma carbamazepine concentrations, were evaluated before and after the brand/ manufacturer switch. Physical-chemical tests aiming to assess tablets quality were performed in accordance with the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia 5th edition. The study population was composed by 14 patients (mean age: 44.6 years), with 10 of females. From those interviewed, 10 had no knowledge about the three antiepileptic drugs formulations available. The frequency of adverse event "problems with skin" incresead (p=0.023) and "upset stomach" decreased (p=0.041) after the changeover. The adverse events profile was associated with only two quality of life domains: "energy/fatigue" (p=0.048) and "total score" (p=0.018). Divergent results between generic and reference formulations were observed in purity-water test (reference: 1.96%, generic: 4.84%) and dissolution test, in which the generic formulation presented 66.27 to 85.77% of carbamazepine dissolved after the third level. Conclusions: Objective differences before and after the brand/manufacturer switch were not observed, in spite of patients' perceptions. Despite that, more studies in the field are necessary, especially on the interchangeability among generic antiepileptics, in order to better elucidate switching consequences on patients' life.

A 48-year-old man who is a known case of bipolar disorder was maintaining well on a combination of carbamazepine and quetiapine for 3 years until he developed fever, severe leucopenia and lymphadenopathy, along with significant loss of weight and appetite. A thorough investigation revealed Kikuchi's disease as a likely histological diagnosis. Carbamazepine was discontinued and quetiapine was titrated for the management of psychiatric symptoms. The patient gradually made good recovery following discontinuation of carbamazepine and the diagnosis of drug-induced myelosuppression was retained. Clinicians need to be aware of the adverse effects of medications being used for long-term prophylaxis and other possible conditions that may change the course of drug effects.

Antiseizure medications (ASMs) are frequently implicated in T cell-mediated drug hypersensitivity reactions and cause skin tropic pathologies that range in severity from mild rashes to life-threatening systemic syndromes. During the acute stages of the more severe manifestations of these reactions, drug responsive proinflammatory CD8+ T cells display classical features of Th1 cytokine production (e.g. IFNγ) and cytolysis (e.g. granzyme B, perforin). These T cells may be found locally at the site of pathology (e.g. blister cells/fluid), as well as systemically (e.g. blood, organs). What is less understood are the long-lived immunological effects of the memory T cell pool following T cell-mediated drug hypersensitivity reactions. In this study, we examine the ASM carbamazepine (CBZ) and the CBZ-reactive memory T cell pool in patients who have a history of either Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) or toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) from 3-to-20 years following their initial adverse reaction. We show that in vitro drug restimulation of CBZ-reactive CD8+ T cells results in a proinflammatory profile and produces a mainly focused, yet private, T cell receptor (TCR) usage amongst human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-B*15:02-positive SJS or TEN patients. Additionally, we show that expression of these CBZ-reactive TCRs in a reporter cell line, lacking endogenous αßTCR, recapitulates the features of TCR activation reported for ASM-treated T cell lines/clones, providing a useful tool for further functional validations. Finally, we conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the HLA-B*15:02 immunopeptidome following ASM (or a metabolite) treatment of a HLA-B*15:02-positive B-lymphoblastoid cell line (C1R.B*15:02) and minor perturbation of the peptide repertoire. Collectively, this study shows that the CBZ-reactive T cells characterized require both the drug and HLA-B*15:02 for activation and that reactivation of memory T cells from blood results in a focused private TCR profile in patients with resolved disease.

BACKGROUND: The use of antiepileptic drugs and estrogen deficiency put forward higher requirements for bone defect regeneration. The present study investigated the effects of alendronate (ALN) on femoral bone defect in ovariectomized (OVX) rats under the influence of carbamazepine (CBZ). METHODS: One hundred female SD rats at 3 months of age were either sham-operated or OVX and divided into four groups: sham control (CON); OVX control (OVX); ovariectomized rats treated with CBZ via gavage (75 mg/kg/day; CBZ); ovariectomized rats treated with CBZ plus ALN (2 mg/kg/day; CBZ-ALN). A critical-sized femoral metaphyseal bone defect was established in all female SD rats. Animals from the CBZ and CBZ-ALN groups received drugs by gavage the day after bone defect surgery was performed. After the rats were sacrificed, the defected area located in the distal femur was harvested for evaluation by microcomputed tomography (micro-CT), hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining, and Masson's trichrome staining. The samples were also analyzed by biomechanics and immunohistochemical evaluation (IHC). Besides, biochemical analysis evaluates all serum samples. RESULTS: The present study showed that ovariectomy changed the microstructural parameters of bone. The use of CBZ further decreased femur bone mass while treatment with ALN prevented bone loss. Compared to OVX and CBZ groups, CBZ-ALN group promoted bone neoformation and enhanced the ultimate load of the femur bone. However, the group of CBZ-ALN did not return to normal levels compared with the CON group. Besides, we noticed that CBZ-ALN group reduced tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-5b (Tracp-5b) expression and had no significant effect on the expression of osteocalcin (OCN) and type I collagen (Col-I) in IHC compared with CBZ group. Biochemical analysis results presented that systemic delivery of CBZ showed pernicious effects on bone formation and resorption in ovariectomized rats, with the worse effects on C-terminal crosslinked telopeptide of type I collagen (CTX-1). Besides, a significant decrease in CTX-1 levels was observed in CBZ-ALN group as compared to the group of CBZ. CONCLUSION: These results demonstrated that ALN can effectively reverse the effects of CBZ on the microarchitectural properties of bone, and thus can have a positive effect on local bone neoformation in rats with osteoporosis. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: The dose of 2 mg/kg ALN improves the negative effect of prescription of CBZ at 75 mg/kg and promotes bone neoformation of femoral bony deficits.

BACKGROUND: Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are life-threatening drug-induced dermatologic conditions. SJS/TEN occurs in 1-10 per 10 000 patients taking carbamazepine (CBZ) (Pratt VM, McLeod HL, Rubinstein WS et al. Medical Genetics Summaries. National Center for Biotechnology Information US; 2018: 1-527). The development of SJS/TEN is associated with variable drug metabolism and presence of an at-risk HLA haplotype. HLA-B*15:02 and HLA-A*31:01 haplotypes can produce a hyperimmune response in the setting of CBZ use in patients of Asian and European descent, respectively (Schneider JA, Cohen PR. Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis: A concise review with a comprehensive summary of therapeutic interventions emphasizing supportive measures. Adv Ther. 2017; 34:1235-1244). OBJECTIVE: The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Canadian pharmacogenomics Network for Drug Safety (CPNDS) recommend that patients with high-risk ethnic backgrounds should be genetic tested before initiating CBZ (Sukasem C, Chaichan C, Nakkrut T et al. Association between HLA-B Alleles and Carbamazepine-induced maculopapular exanthema and severe cutaneous reactions in Thai patients. Journal of Immunology Research. 2018; 1-11).We sought out to assess the awareness of this in prescribing practitioners and their standard of practice. METHODS: We created a 15-question survey and distributed to pediatric neurologists and pediatricians at the University of Alberta. We hypothesized that there was a discordance between the standard of practice and the recommendation by the FDA and CPNDS. RESULTS: The survey results indicated a lack of awareness of the at-risk ethnicities for CBZ-induced SJS/TEN. HLA gene testing was rarely done prior to initiation of CBZ in high-risk patients. In addition, there was a lack of awareness for standard of care for genetic testing in Canada and worldwide. CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrate an evident gap between current prescriber practices and existing FDA and CPNDS recommendations to screen for HLA genotypes. We hope that this study captures the realistic potential to improve patient outcomes.

OBJECTIVE: The study is aimed at comparing effects of older drugs like carbamazepine (CBZ) and newer agent like levetiracetam (LEV) on polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) in women with epilepsy (WWE). METHODS: An interviewer-based questionnaire was used to obtain relevant clinical information from 50 WWE on CBZ and LEV monotherapy, respectively, and 50 age-matched controls. The diagnosis of epilepsy was clinical with electroencephalographic features taken into consideration and the seizures classified using the 2017 International League Against Epilepsy classification. The diagnosis of PCOS was based on the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology/American Society for Reproductive Medicine. RESULTS: The frequency of PCOS and its subcomponent were higher among WWE compare to controls. PCOS was present in 22 (44%) of LEV group compare to 8 (16%) CBZ group. The frequency of its subcomponent was higher among those on LEV except for comparable effect with regard to oligomenorrhea. The levels of the sex steroid hormone were comparable in both groups of WWE except luteal phase luteinizing hormone, which was lower among the LEV group (P .001). The follicular phase estradiol level was lower (P .021), and follicle-stimulating hormone level was about 2-fold higher (P .03) among WWE compare to controls. The mean value testosterone was significantly lower among controls compared to WWE. CONCLUSIONS: The increased frequency of PCOS and its subcomponent and the unsatisfactory effect of LEV compared to CBZ on reproductive endocrine function underscore the need for routine reproductive endocrine evaluation to improve overall quality of life.

Aims: To determine genetic susceptibility markers for carbamazepine (CBZ) and allopurinol-induced severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs) in Vietnamese. Methods: A case-control study was performed involving 122 patients with CBZ or allopurinol-induced SCARs and 120 drug tolerant controls. Results:HLA-B*58:01 was strongly associated with allopurinol-induced SCARs and strongly correlated with SNP rs9263726. HLA-B*15:02 was associated with CBZ-induced Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis but not with drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome/drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms. No association was found between HLA-A*31:01 and CBZ-induced SCARs. HLA-B*58:01 and rs3909184 allele A with renal insufficiency were shown to increase the risk of allopurinol-induced SCARs. Conclusion:HLA-B*58:01 and HLA-B*15:02 confer susceptibility to allopurinol-induced SCARs and CBZ-induced SJS/TEN in Vietnamese. SNP rs9263726 can be used as a surrogate marker in identifying HLA-B*58:01.

Male infertility is a global health problem, and the underlying molecular mechanisms are not clearly known. Ion channels and microRNAs (miRNAs), known to function in many vital functions in cells, have been shown to play a significant role in male infertility through changes in their expressions. The study aimed to evaluate the alterations of testicular and/or spermatozoal potassium voltage-gated channel subfamily J member 11 (KCNJ11), Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR), miR-let-7a and miR-27a expressions in carbamazepine-related male infertility. Here, we showed that carbamazepine reduced sperm motility, increased abnormal sperm morphology, and impaired hormonal balance as well as increased relative testis weight and decreased relative seminal vesicle weight. On the other hand, downregulated KCNJ11 and upregulated miR-let-7a expressions were determined in testis (p < .05). Also, downregulated KCNJ11 and upregulated CFTR and miR-27a expressions were found in spermatozoa (p < .05). Interestingly, altered testicular KCNJ11 and miR-let-7a expressions were correlated with decreased sperm motility and elevated sperm tail defect. Besides, spermatozoal CFTR and miR-27a expressions positively correlated with sperm tail defects. The results indicated a significant relationship between ion channel and/or miRNA expression alterations and impaired sperm parameters due to carbamazepine usage.

Chemical contaminants such as industrial and urban by-products, pharmaceuticals, drugs metabolites and, plastics, are continuously found in the oceans, affecting its quality and organism's welfare. Although these compounds are found at concentrations ranged ng L-1, there is an increasing concern about the potential adverse effects of the interactions among those substances present, simultaneously, in a mixture. In the present study, specimens of sea bream (Sparus aurata) were exposed, by food, to rising concentrations of a mixture of carbamazepine, polybrominated diphenyl ether-47 and cadmium chloride, for 15 days and then, maintained, with the same control diet, without contaminants, for other 15 days. Samples of skin mucus, serum, head-kidney, liver and intestine were sampled at 0, 15 and 30 days. Cellular immune parameters were evaluated on head-kidney, as well as humoral parameters were determined on skin mucus and serum. In addition, the expression of some genes, related to immunity, was analysed on liver and intestine. Both cellular and humoral response were affected at 15 days, showing slightly signs of recovery at 30 days. Besides, the expression of immune-related genes was highly affected, suggesting the development of inflammatory processes, as well as a reduction of immune parameters. Overall, the mixture of compounds severally affected the immune system of sea bream, suggesting a lower degree of recovery. The prolonged exposure to a mixture of these compounds could entail serious change on population immunity and, eventually, promote changes on marine biota.
